MONTHLY UPDATE | MAY 2023

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

One of our local church leaders recently reminded us that when we read the Word of God, His Word reads us, exposing our hidden thoughts and discerning our secret motives. God’s Word penetrates into the innermost depth of a man’s personality, and no one is hidden from His sight. As one commentator concluded, we are accountable to the living Word and to the living God who is its author. May we take note that many still do not have access to God’s living Word.

I recently returned from a trip to Ethiopia with our Communications team, where we experienced first-hand how Davar-recorded audio bibles are helping to share the gospel in remote villages and used to make disciples through our partnership with The Word for the World. We have so many positive impressions from our time in Ethiopia and we look forward to sharing the stories, videos, and images with you in the coming months. Thank you for your prayers as we traveled.

We praise God for His continued provision of generous givers, narrators, studios, and staff to complete nine recording projects, including six in Cameroon, and manage 19 recordings in progress worldwide. Please take a few minutes to learn about our growing recording activities in the African country of Cameroon, a new country for Davar in 2023, where we have plans to complete 16 audio bibles.

While we are making great progress there is still much work to be done. One opportunity to support the recording of additional audio bibles is through a gift of non-cash assets. By donating assets like real estate, stocks, etc., you can inspire life transformation for oral learners worldwide (and even reduce your taxes). We have provided more guidance on this topic on our website.

In closing, we are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of Simon Peter Mukhama, CEO/General Secretary of The Bible Society of Uganda. Last year we had the opportunity to meet and travel with Simon Peter, who shared a deep passion and advocacy for providing God’s Word to the people of Uganda. If you’ve watched any of our videos from Uganda you’ve met him. We ask for prayers for his family and the team at the Bible Society.
