Engagement Partnership with The Word for the World (TWFTW)

We have been partnering with The Word for the World Ethiopia team to complete audio Bible recordings for fifteen Ethiopian languages.  We visited two of these language communities, Maale and Aari, and found that the audio bibles are primarily used to help engage and disciple church and community members through listening groups.

Insights From TWFTW ETHIOPIA

Mr. Tesfaye Bekema, Director for TWFTW Ethiopia, shares, “If we take Ethiopia, or even whole Africa, the majorities are less educated. So we find very few people who can read the Bible and understand it fully.”

MAALE COMMUNITY

Tamane Lale, one of the Maale audio Bible narrators, and also a Bible translator for TWFTW, tells us, “Maale people are oral learners. I am happy because they listen, and they understand very well what I read for the audio. They can listen and take lessons from the whole message, from Genesis to Revelation. This will be a great impact among our community.”

LISTENING GROUPS

A listening group is usually five to ten people led by a facilitator, often a pastor. They will listen to one or two chapters on the audio device and the facilitator then leads a discussion about what they heard. Tesfaye Gebreab, TWFTW Ethiopia responsible for Scripture Engagement, shares, “It’s a very effective tool for them to know God’s Word, daily engaging in God’s Word. They learn new things for their life.”

AARI COMMUNITY

There are approximately 700,000 in the Aari community in Southern Ethiopia, and 98% of them are farmers.  Nathanael Hakki, one of the audio Bible narrators, tells us, “After this device available in our community, many people are blessed by the Word and they are bringing some testimonies. The messages are changing our lives.

GRATEFUL TO THOSE WHO MADE IT POSSIBLE

The community leadership expressed their appreciation, “Thank you so much for helping us, for providing the Word of God in audio format in the way we can easily understand it.”

We pray God will use the Davar recordings to impact many generations with the audible Word of God throughout Southern Ethiopia.
